There is an overlap between financial data and risk data. For example, most of the master data items such as customer, product are used for financial accounting and risk management. Similarly, several categories of reference data are used in accounting and in risk management. Sometimes, bank managements face the challenge of resolving the differences in the interpretations of its stakeholders e.g. funds transfer pricing ‘conflicts’ between lines of business (internal stakeholders). There could also be differences between what a bank is reporting and what the banking supervisor expects ('lost in translation'!).
A bank must maintain a single semantic definition of products, instruments, terms of business, markets, counterparty and customers.
An ontology based enterprise risk adjusted return management system provides more accurate output.
